Momentum builds up for 2018 awards

If you're a woman in business and got what it takes, do apply or nominate someone!

This is the message from Women in Business (WIB) president Dr Nur Bano Ali as they build up towards their annual awards night later in May of this year.

The momentum is building up for the 2018 WIB awards with its application drive in the Central and Western divisions over the coming weeks.

The WIB team held its application drive in Suva on Wednesday night with a speed networking session to increase awareness on its awards.

This is after it kicked off the application drive in Nadi last week with more than 40 women present at the Bulaccino Café.

The Aliz Pacific board room in Suva was however abuzz with more than 40 women from the corporate and private sector who were part of the speed networking session.

According to WIB president Dr Nur Bano Ali, the exercise was also aimed at increasing the participants' skills of networking and building business relationships.

"We find speed networking as our most favourite program because a lot of women they all want to learn tips of networking, communicating and how to create and build business contacts," Dr Ali said.

"So this is why we always kick off with a speed networking sessions.

"We had about 40 women here today and that's what we are doing maximising and targeting groups of about 40 or 50 women to come and discuss about the applications and the different categories and the fact that it is open and to encourage women to apply."

Dr Ali also highlighted that the WIB was targeting about 200 applications this year, the same as its target last year.

"There'll be more of these every week we are doing two at least, this week was Suva, next week we are going to Nadi and then to Ba and back to Suva," Dr Ali said.

"We'll keep doing this until such time when the application closes on April 4.

"Please put your hand up, if you're good enough and you can do it, just simply put your name out."

With the theme "Times Up", the awards are in four categories — Business Woman of the Year; Executive Woman of the Year; Manager of the Year and Aspiring Entrepreneur of the Year.
